Biography

Algreit Dume is an Economist with studies in Rome, Madrid and Copenhagen. After different labour experiences in Rome, Copenhagen and London, in financing, consulting and strategic analysis, including the co-founding and business development of a start-up on circular economy, he ended up in Brussels as a Regulatory Affairs manager at FEICA (Association of the European Adhesive & Sealant Industry). Some years ago he joined the European Commission as an Economist and Policy Officer and in particular DG GROW (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs), where he has been in the Bioeconomy, Chemicals and Cosmetics units with tasks related to REACH (including SEAC), the EU Recovery and Resilience plan or taxonomy amongst others. Since its creation at the end of 2025 he is one of the Coordinators of the CCA (EU Critical Chemical Alliance) and its very active working groups, that planned several deliverables for June 2026 precisely.

Europe’s chemical industry is under severe pressure. In response, the European Commission adopted the European Chemicals Industry Action Plan in July 2025. A central follow-up initiative is the Critical Chemicals Alliance, which brings together institutions and stakeholders to identify critical molecules and production sites, address vulnerabilities, and support strategic investment.

These objectives will only be achieved if they are translated into action where the industry actually operates: in Europe’s regions. This debate will therefore examine how regional authorities can help turn the EU policy framework into industrial reality — preserving production, supporting the transformation of strategic sites, enabling decarbonisation, and reinforcing Europe’s long-term competitiveness.
